Passion for Promarkers – In My Garden

Our sponsor for this week’s Passion for Promarkers challenge is Joanna Sheen, who is giving our winner a voucher for £10 to spend in her online shop.

It was my turn to choose the challenge theme for this week, and to write a corresponding tutorial for the colouring. I chose as my theme ‘In My Garden’, using an image from this week’s digi sponsor, DigiStamp Boutique

I will keep this post brief, and just let you read my tute, which explains how I coloured the image, and which Promarker colours I used.  You’ll find the tutorial by scrolling down to my previous post.

In case you were wondering, the lovely designer papers that I used are from the Blueberry Hill collection by Papermania.

Again, I’d like to thank Sally-Ann from the DigiStamp Boutique for letting me use the gorgeous ‘Lizzie with Flowers’ image for my tutorial.

I hope that you all like my card; thanks for taking a peek !  Mxx

My PfP Digi Friday Tutorial

I chose ‘Lizzie with Flowers’ from the DigiStamp Boutique for next week’s Passion for Promarkers challenge, and in my tutorial I’d particularly like to show you how I added a pattern to Lizzie’s dress.

Steps 1-3. Colour Lizzie’s skin with Ivory, then add shading with Blush, and a spot of Pastel Pink on her cheeks, finally blending the colours together with another layer of Ivory.

Steps 4-6.  Colour her hair with Tan, then add shading with Caramel and Walnut, and blend together with Caramel.

Steps 7-8.  Colour the flowers with Baby Pink and shade with Carmine, then blend the colours together with Baby Pink.  Follow the same steps for colouring the leaves and grass, but using Leaf Green, and Marsh Green for shading.

Steps 9-10.  Colour Lizzie’s dress with Duck Egg, and add shading with Denim. To add the polka dots, hold your Blender pen vertically and touch the very tip of your nib wherever you would like to place a spot.  The Blender will have lifted some of the colour from the dress, and will leave you with a dotty pattern!

I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial this week, and thank you very much, Sally-Ann, for the gorgeous image, which I’ve enjoyed working with very much.

Passion for Promarkers – Promarker Background

Our sponsors for this week’s Passion for Promarkers challenge are Letraset, who are giving our winner a prize of a set of five Promarkers.

I have to admit that I was a bit phased by Ida’s choice of challenge theme when I first heard what it was – you have to make your own card background with Promarkers!  After giving it some thought, I decided to experiment a little; after all, we should always be encouraged to push the envelope a little, and step out of our comfort zone, shouldn’t we? So, thank you, Ida, for your very different theme!

For my background I used the alcohol ink method of applying inks to glossy card to colour and decorate it.  Those of you who are familiar with Ranger’s alcohol inks will already know about this technique, but I will describe it for those who aren’t.

Firstly, it’s important to use glossy card, as matt card will just soak up the inks, and you won’t achieve the desired look.  I used a home-made tool consisting of an old stamp block (with the rubber stamp removed of course!), to which I attached a small piece of Velcro tape (only the ‘hook’ part).  This allows small rectangles of felt to be fastened onto the block, and to be easily removed after use.

After attaching the felt, I scribbled on it with two or three colours of Promarkers, and added one drop of Ranger’s silver ‘mixative’ for a little glitz, then three or four drops of Ranger’s blending solution.  I then pressed the inked felt tool onto my glossy card in a random fashion, covering the whole piece with colour.

This technique will leave you with an attractive pattern, rather like the veining in natural gemstones.  As the ink dries almost instantly, you may have to re-ink your felt pad with your Promarkers and blender once again to achieve the colour that you want.

For my background pieces I used Violet, Orchid and Bluebell on the larger, and Amethyst and Orchid on the smaller oval one. I coloured my little Hanglar and Stanglar fairy with the matching Promarkers, and also tinted my ribbon and heart-shaped gem with Promarkers (Orchid and Purple).

I hope that you will enjoy Ida’s fab challenge this week. I can’t wait to see how you all choose to interpret it!

Thank you again for taking a look at my card. Mxx
